This is a 24 hours Course.
At the Officer Survival Series we believe the best way to train is to make it a habit. To train consistently throughout the year and to make training a lifestyle . The skills you learn in any defensive tactics course are perishable and require a long term commitment to training to remain competent. That is one of the reasons we conduct courses in our Connecticut based facility using an 8-week program (one day per week for 8 weeks). It creates a pattern of training, a habit of getting on the mat every week for 2 months. Many officers that attend this course continue to train afterwards.
But we also understand if we are to take our courses and our knowledge on the road, away from our home base it is not practical to run courses over the same time frame. What we can do is offer a 4 day version of our Connecticut program and share with you the process of how we developed a very successful program that has been responsible for inspiring hundreds of cops to train and give you the blueprint to build your own network of cops that train...to re-create what we have done back home.
What do students learn in our 4 Day Program?
Students learn modern, pressure tested defensive tactics skills, team tactics, basic level TECC, dealing with special populations in use of force situations, handcuffing, weapon retention, edged weapon response, realistic force on force scenarios, and we explain how we set up a mock trial/testimony component with police litigation attorneys. We will also share with you proven ways to get cops training, develop weekly training groups and start on the path to a consistent and a successful police training program which includes access to our online video database of curriculum.
The course lesson plan includes instruction in all five ranges of physical combat skills to include striking, grappling, clinch work, take-downs, and weapons-based environment situations.
We use a crawl, walk, run approach to training and we concentrate on teaching students’ concepts and principles (not just a list of techniques) that will allow them to better respond to the unpredictability of real-world police encounters that do not follow a script.
The lead instructors for this course are experts in their field to include seasoned LEOs that are also BJJ black belts. These are not people that instruct once a year, they live the life and are still active leaders in their chosen professions.
Is there an Instructor Certification available to students upon completion of this course?
That depends…One of the biggest issues in the law enforcement training world is certifying instructors that are not ready to teach. Then they go back to their agency and teach others even though they are not ready to take on that role. Learning to appropriately control another person is a perishable skill. It requires consistent training and evaluation of one’s skills under pressure. Our team of trainers will closely evaluate each and every student that comes to our courses. We will certify students to teach our curriculum based on their prior background in training/teaching and more importantly their actual skill demonstrated during the course. We will not issue a certification to teach just because they showed up.
Online Training Curriculum: Every student will be issued a course manual and have access to online videos of the entire course curriculum upon completion of the program.
Courtroom Testifying: Our team of instructors are available to testify in court in support of the curriculum we teach. We will verbally explain and physically demonstrate any of our program curriculum if needed. Our entire Officer Survival Series Curriculum is POSTC Certified in the State of CT or any other state we come to instruct in.
