The Connecticut 8 Day Officer Survival Series De-Escalation Through Confidence Program is our flagship course. It is offered three times per year at our Manchester, CT Facility. Unlike traditional police DT programs that are run in a 40 hour/5 day format, we have spread the learning over 8 days over the course of a few weeks. This gives students time to mentally digest the material they learn each day. The students have time for their bodies to acclimate to the training which reduces the chances of injuries from back to back training days. Agency administrators also enjoy that they are not losing an officer for an entire week or more all at once, especially during these times when agencies are short staffed. We have found that this way of training produces a much higher level of retention of the material than rushing through a training program in a week. We are able to do this at our facility for any officer willing to commit to the 8-day program. We do offer one week/40 hour courses when teaching outside of our home state of Connecticut.
What do students learn in our courses?
They learn modern, pressure tested defensive tactics skills, team tactics and communication, basic level TECC, dealing with special populations in use of force situations, handcuffing, weapon retention, edged weapon response, realistic force on force scenarios, report writing, updated police accountability use of force mandates and there is a mock trial/testimony component with police litigation attorneys.
The course lesson plan includes instruction in all five ranges of physical combat skills to include striking, grappling, clinch work, take-downs, and weapons-based environment situations.
We use a crawl, walk, run approach to training and we concentrate on teaching students’ concepts and principles (not just a list of techniques) which will allow them to better respond to the unpredictability of real-world police encounters that do not follow a script.
The lead instructors for this course are experts in their field to include seasoned LEOs that are also BJJ black belts, medical doctors, and experienced police litigation attorneys. These are not people that instruct once a year, they live the life and are still active leaders in their chosen professions.
Is there an Instructor Certification available to students upon completion of this course?
That depends…One of the biggest issues in the law enforcement training world is certifying instructors that are not ready to teach. Then they go back to their agency and teach others even though they are not ready to take on that role. Learning to appropriately control another person is a perishable skill. It requires consistent training and evaluation of one’s skills under pressure. Our team of trainers will closely evaluate each and every student that comes to our courses. We will certify students to teach our curriculum based on their prior background in training/teaching and more importantly their actual skill demonstrated during the course.
We will not issue a certification to teach just because they showed up.
Continued training. If a student is not ready to be an instructor upon completion of the 8 Day Course we allow them to train with us for FREE at one of our approved training facilities in Connecticut for up to 6 months or when our coaching staff believes they are ready to teach.
Online Training Curriculum: Every student will be issued a course manual and have 24/7 access to online videos of the entire course curriculum upon completion of the program. Each student also has access to the instructors of their course should questions arise after their course is completed.
Courtroom Testifying: Our team of instructors are available to testify in court in support of the curriculum we teach. We will verbally explain and physically demonstrate any of our program curriculum if needed. Our entire Officer Survival Series Curriculum is POSTC Certified in the State of CT or any other state where we come to instruct.
This is one of the most comprehensive and realistic police use of force/defensive tactics courses in existence! But don’t take our word for it.
